The Press - Pressa - English subtitles
The TV series "The Press", is a fast paced crime series that takes place on a tabloid newspaper in Reykjavik.
The six-episode series revolve around the main character LARA, who is a single mom in her thirties.
The second season of The Press aired winter 2010 on Channel 2 in Iceland and became their highest rated drama series to date. Feedback and reviews for the series, from industry and viewers alike have been overwhelmingly positive and hailed as Sagfilm's best production yet.
The drama is driven forward by the fast paced happenings at a tabloid newspaper where people’s reputations are built and ruined in the space of a carefully placed headline. Each 45 minute episode provides individual story lines. The over-arching storyline is played out in three distinct parts that play out over two episodes at a time, tying up loose ends in an explosive final episode that had viewers at the edge of their seats.
Issues as diverse as the effect of privately owned media on how news stories are delivered to problems connected with organized crime are explored. Forbrydelsen (en. The Killing) star Bjarne Henriksen makes an explosive appearance in three of the episodes as a member of an international criminal motorcycle gang.
The show focuses on presenting a modern reality with credible story lines and personal narratives. Shot on handheld cameras, the series exudes a sense of intimacy, inviting the viewer to be part of the world that has been created to tell a compelling story.
The series is created by Óskar Jónasson and Sigurjón Kjartansson. The former an award winning director and the latter the most prolific and popular writer and developer of TV series in Iceland.
